ARTful Living
By Anne Murphy
Fall is here. Do you look forward to unpacking tweeds and
nubby sweaters? Yearn to touch Grandma’s crazy quilt
with all its colors and textures? Pour over books and magazines
with designs for needlepoint, knitting or crocheting, or
other handcrafts?
If these are a few of your favorite things, you already
have a love for fiber art and textiles, our most familiar
art form.
September finds our metro-area in a whirlwind of art exhibits
and events focused on contemporary fiber arts. Titled Innovations
in Textiles 6, this is a community-wide, multi-venue, bi-annual
collaboration of 16 area galleries, all exhibiting contemporary
fiber art during September and October. In addition to exhibits,
there are lectures, tours and workshops. This event has
been organized by Craft Alliance in University City.
Below is a brief list of exhibits and highlights of special
events. Check gallery websites for information regarding
receptions, lectures and workshops. For details visit www.craftalliance.org,
or call 314-725-1177 for an Innovations in Textiles 6 brochure.
