EARTHDANCE
HONORS FARMERS AT PESTO FESTO: A HARVEST FESTIVAL
EarthDance will honor local farmers by stirring up some
fantastic things (including pesto) on November 8th at
the new community organization’s kick-off event
Pesto Festo: A Harvest Celebration on November 8th at
6:00 p.m. at the Savoy Banquet Center (119 S. Florissant
Road, 63135).
“Civic and business professionals are often honored
for their contributions to society, but I think farmers
are some of the hardest working businesspeople there are!
Farms have been such an important hub of social and economic
activity in American culture…so we want to recognize
[farmers] for nourishing people, protecting our top soil,
and preserving open space,” said Molly Rockamann,
co-founder of EarthDance.
Caroline Mueller, an 88 year old resident of Ferguson
and lifelong farmer, will receive a special honor at Pesto
Festo: A Harvest Celebration for the years that she and
her late husband Al spent working their family farm and
keeping their land in production.
As part of the tribute, an Inner Mission Productions film
(by filmmaker Rebecca Rivas) telling the story of the
Mueller Farm will premier at the Saturday night event.
Pesto Festo will also entertain audiences with live bluegrass
music from The Buckhannon Brothers (who grew up next to
the Mueller Farm) and The Grass Pack, a six-piece band
with their roots planted in the tradition of rural American
music. The event includes a silent auction featuring eco
goods such as organic t-shirt screen printing by Sportsprint
and local artwork from members of the Northern Arts Council.
Thyme Table Café, Pi, Local Harvest Café,
and Riddle’s are a few of the restaurants who’ll
be serving up dishes prepared with locally grown produce.
The healthy and hearty feast will feature both pesto and
non-pesto Mediterranean dishes. Tickets are $25 and people
may purchase them online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/41757.
EarthDance is partnering with The Open Space Council and
Live Well Ferguson! to host the event, with all of the
night’s proceeds going to supporting the EarthDance
mission of growing and inspiring local FARMS – Food,
Art, Relationships, and Music – Sustainably! The
Open Space Council, acting as fiscal agent for EarthDance,
is an organization that works collaboratively to conserve
and sustain land, water and other natural resources throughout
the St. Louis region. Live Well Ferguson! is an initiative
seeking to advance the health of Ferguson residents by
ensuring wider access to healthy foods and opportunities
to live active lifestyles.
