ACUPUNCTURE,
CAN IT HELP ME?
By Richard J. Davis, DC
Can acupuncture help me? Is it safe? Does it hurt? How
does it work? People are asking these questions now that
acupuncture has become so popular, is accepted by the
medical community and even some health insurance companies.
In my experience, acupuncture is the most effective of
all the healing arts (except for conventional medicine
treating acute, life-threatening problems). Actually it
is used by more people around the world than conventional
medicine. It is safe, effective, and inexpensive compared
to conventional care.
We used to think that acupuncture began in China 3,000
years ago; but then we found acupuncture points tattooed
on the body of a man frozen in the ice of the Italian
Alps for 5,000 years. Personally, I believe that humans
in many parts of the world knew how to use acupuncture
(or acupressure) since cave dwellers roamed the Earth.
To me, the concept of how acupuncture works was revealed
in scientific terms by researchers at Yale University
School of Medicine in the 1940’s. Taking pictures
of the energy field surrounding living matter they concluded
that there is an electromagnetic ‘blueprint’
that is present before the matter itself. The blueprint
guides how the matter will form, and how it will function.
In their studies they photographed the field around a
leaf, then cut the leaf in half and still found the image
of the whole leaf. More surprising, the field around a
seedling showed the shape that the adult plant it was
to become. Acupuncture treats the electromagnetic blueprints
of the body.
We can heal the body through its nervous system (for example
chiropractic), through its chemistry (for example medicine),
and through its electromagnetic system (for example acupuncture).
Since electromagnetic energy patterns exist even before
the tissue itself, it seems logical that energy is the
most fundamental and effective form of communication with
our bodies. Just think – if the blueprint is altered
by disease, trauma, or toxicity, often we can restore
the blueprint to normal by treating the electromagnetic
system with acupuncture, and therefore should be able
to treat almost any dysfunction of the body. When the
normal blueprint is restored, the body usually can heal
itself. It is interesting that the blueprint is there,
and I work with it, even if the organ (for example gall
bladder) has been removed. The energy blueprint for the
gallbladder would still affect the function of other parts
of the body.
In my practice I use acupuncture or acupressure along
with other sciences to diagnose and treat a variety of
health issues. Acupuncture has helped me treat severe
back pain, digestive disorders, diarrhea, constipation,
excess or insufficient appetite, menstrual pain or irregularity,
migraine headaches, allergies, hormone imbalance, cysts,
fibroid tumors, male or female infertility, and addiction
to tobacco.
Acupuncture is safe when performed by a trained and licensed
health care professional. The needles are sterile, used
once, and discarded. The needles don’t hurt because
they are as thin as a human hair, and very smooth. They
do not tear tissues as a hypodermic needle must to draw
blood, or deliver a chemical.
Try acupuncture for your health concern. It is safe, painless,
and often very effective.
