Sensitivity and Subtlety: Tias Little
by Lynn Rosemann
The 2010 teaching schedule for master yoga teacher Tias Little includes 31 cities all across the US as well as stops in Canada, Belgium, Turkey, Germany, and Helsinki. In addition, Tias and his wife, Surya, will offer another 13 workshops at their Prajna Studio in Santa Fe, NM. Sounds like a busy year of teaching for a yoga teacher. But Tias is not an ordinary yoga teacher. According to Jennifer Acker, Amherst Magazine 2006, “Little has become known as one of the most thoughtful and intellectual leaders in the field of yoga, a practitioner respected for his rich understanding of yogic tradition, as well as his keen attention to anatomical detail and his focus on quieting the mind.”
So the good news is that Tias Little will begin his 2010 teaching schedule right here in St. Louis the weekend of January 15 through the 17th. YogaSource is the sponsoring studio and the workshop will be held at the Shrewsbury Community Center.
Tias began his yogic journey in 1984 practicing Iyengar under the guidance of his mother, Susan. Then in 1989 he traveled to Mysore, India to study Ashtanga with K. Pattabhi Jois for six months. After many years of practice, study, and exploration into bodywork, cranial-sacral therapy and massage, Tias expanded his journey to include Eastern Philosophy in which he holds an Masters Degree form St. John's College. Tias is currently a student of Tsoknyi Rinpoche's in the Dzogchen tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.
The weekend workshop intensive will focus on different aspects of the yoga body and is titled “My Body Is My Temple.” Friday's first session will look atThe Art of Inverting, trusting the inner self and building confidence to look at the world upside down. The second session will address our foundation in the world, the Sacred Feet. Saturday morning's session will explore the Sacred Knee and inner groin, while the afternoon will address the Sacred Sacrum, posture and centering. Sunday morning's last session will look at the Sacred Skull, it's bones, the chakras, the brain, and it's release during asana and meditation. The weekend should offer a nice blend of classical yoga tradition, focus on alignment/anatomy, and a deep connection to the compassionate wisdom that resides within.
