Getting Rolfed… The Benefits
By Alan Cina
Any imbalances in the body, no matter what the cause,
are imprinted as change in the structure and these effects
are cumulative. The results of this can be postural changes,
reduction in the range of motion, neck and shoulder strain
leading to vertebra and disc problems, Repetitive Motion
Syndrome, or a variety of ankle, knee, hip and shoulder
problems. The body will attempt to return to its normal
state but without assistance it will generally remain
misaligned.
Structural Integration, which was developed by Dr.
Ida Rolf, aims to separate bound-up connective tissues
(or fascia), which link the muscles to the bones and
restore balance to the body. "Rolfing literally
releases the joints," Dr. Mehmet Oz said on Oprah.com.
"When you talk to folks about the impact it has
on them, a lot of them just stand taller. A lot of the
work is just freeing you up to live the way you're supposed
to.” Feelings of discomfort or pain are alleviated.
As a result of the process people often appear taller
and slimmer. Some actually gain anywhere from ¼”
to over one inch in height. Others gain greater flexibility,
a feeling of lightness and fluidity, better balance,
increased breathing capacity, increased energy and greater
self-confidence. Benefits like less stress and improved
ability to handle life’s challenges are reported.
Individuals are competing in sports in their 60’s
and just as fast or agile as they were 20 years before
due to the work.
“If you can imagine how it feels to have a fluid,
light, balanced body, free of pain, stiffness and chronic
stress, at ease with itself and the earth’s gravitational
field, then you will understand the goals of Structural
Integration.” according to Ida Rolf who pioneered
these techniques. When a person lives without pain their
life is very different. Some clients say their body
feels like a tailor-made suit or just that they feel
great, the pain is gone. There is energy to do what
you want to do and life is fun again. At the same time,
it is important to remember that Structural integration
is a very personal process, because no two people are
alike, their experience and the benefits will never
be exactly the same.
Now that you’ve heard about the benefits, come
in and see what relief you can experience.
