Earth
Share of Missouri – Raising Funds for Environmental
Work
$1 Million to Environmental Programs – From Individual
People!
72 Environmental Organizations in One Package!
By Laura Neuman-Howe, Deputy Director, Earth Share
of Missouri
Earth Share of Missouri is a federation, somewhat
like a co-op, that represents 72 non-profit environmental
organizations. More than half of these organizations have
programs on the ground here in Missouri; the others are
national and international. Earth Share organizations
work on wide ranges of programs, as varied as protecting
the Meramec and Amazon rivers, Missouri prairies and Brazilian
rainforests, pandas, mole crickets or orchids. Parks,
trails, clean air, clean water, recycling, conservation,
preservation of plants, wild animals, natural habitat,
and environmental education are all accomplishments of
Earth Share organizations. Names such as The Nature Conservancy,
Sierra Club, Missouri Botanical Garden, Audubon, Earth
Day Network, and Ozark Regional Land Trust are included.
Please visit Earth Share’s Web site www.earthsharemo.org
for a complete list and details about each organization.
Earth Share’s mission is fundraising via workplace-giving
campaigns on behalf of these organizations. A great secondary
accomplishment is awareness building of important environmental
work, in campaign presentations and via their web site
calendar of events, which publicizes engaging activities
for all ages.
The federation enables employees to make a single donation
that benefits a full spectrum of environmental causes,
and has raised more than $1 million in Missouri for environmental
programs since it started campaigns in 1995.
Earth Share of Missouri and all of its affiliated organizations
are 501(c)3 organizations, so contributions are tax-deductible
as defined by the IRS.
Contributions may be shared with all of the Earth Share
organizations, or donors may direct that their gift go
to their favorite environmental organization(s). Currently
Earth Share is offered in many workplaces, including federal
employees’ Combined Federal Campaign, Missouri State
employees, a number of municipal and county governments,
HOK Architects, UnitedHealth Care, Bass Pro Shops, Wal-Mart,
American Airlines, and others. Earth Share would be happy
to talk to you about how to start up a campaign to benefit
the environment in your workplace.
