A QUESTION OF EFFICIENCY
by Alexandra Templer
Often in my yoga classes I suggest that we could be using
much less energy to maintain the pose or to make the movement.
We often waste energy by using more than is needed or
through unknowing and unneeded compensation. Someone with
proper training and experience can help us identify the
root causes of these inefficiencies that will allow us
to make lasting change and make more energy available
for us. Our homes are no different.
Our houses adapt to make the best use of current circumstances
which often were not designed for efficiency. For example,
many homes do not have adequate insulation and have many
small holes and cracks. As a result, they leak considerable
amounts of air and energy. In the winter, an oversized
heating system must continually turn on and off to heat
the incoming cold air as the warm air you have already
paid for moves up and out.
The small inefficiencies not only add big dollars to heating
bills, but tax dwindling natural resources, emit unnecessary
green house gases, and wear down the heating system. To
save money, have a smaller negarive impact on our planet,
and to have a comfortable place to live for a long time
that requires less maintenance, it can be helpful to have
a professional work with you to make a plan.

home and energy goals, assess its integrated systems,
